英語和漢語語言結(jié)構(gòu)和表達(dá)習(xí)慣有很多差異之處，翻譯時(shí)不能按原文逐詞逐句死譯?，F(xiàn)介紹形容詞的轉(zhuǎn)譯現(xiàn)象。
在很多情況下，將英語的“形容詞十名詞短語”譯成漢語的主謂結(jié)構(gòu)，譯文顯得順口。如：
She spoke in a high voice。她講話的聲音很尖。
This engine develops a high torque。這臺(tái)發(fā)電機(jī)產(chǎn)生的轉(zhuǎn)矩很大。
英語中一些表示知覺，情感，欲望等心理狀態(tài)的形容詞同連系動(dòng)詞構(gòu)成復(fù)合謂語時(shí)，翻譯時(shí)可將形容詞譯成動(dòng)詞：
You are ignorant of the duties you undertake in marrying.
你完全不懂你在婚姻方面應(yīng)承擔(dān)的責(zé)任。
The following plan may become available during the next decade.
下列計(jì)劃在10年間可能實(shí)現(xiàn)。
Such criticisms have become familiar in his 1ater commentaries on America.
類似的批評(píng)在他后來寫的評(píng)論美國的文章中屢見不鮮。
He is truly sorry for his past， and he has undertaken to give up motor-cars
entirely and for ever。
他對(duì)過去追悔莫及，并保證永遠(yuǎn)不開汽車。
Salt and Sugar are both solub1e in water。鹽和糖都溶于水。
為了便于表達(dá)，一些英語詞可譯為漢語名詞。例如：
Contamination leads to 1ower yield．污染導(dǎo)致低產(chǎn)。
After a few months， our just-in-time system became so efficient.
幾個(gè)月后，我們的“準(zhǔn)時(shí)供貨”辦法變得很有成效。
I wish he was blind．我希望他是個(gè)瞎子。
由于語言習(xí)慣不同，英語里的形容詞有時(shí)譯成漢語副詞：
He asked me for a full account of myself and fami1y．
他詳盡地問起我自己和我家里的情況。
Another war will be the absolute end of our country。
再來一次戰(zhàn)爭我們空虛國家就會(huì)徹底毀滅了。
